In situ microscopy for plasma erosion of complex surfaces

چکیده
A novel method for the in situ visualization and profilometry of a plasma-facing surface is demonstrated using long-distance microscope. The technique provides valuable monitoring microscopic temporal morphological evolution material subject to plasma–surface interactions, such as ion-induced sputter erosion. Focus variation image stacks enables height profilometry, which allows depth field beyond limits associated with high magnification. As demonstration this capability, erosion volumetrically featured aluminum foam quantified during ion-bombardment low-temperature argon plasma where electron temperature ∼7 eV biased relative target that ions impinge at ∼300 eV. Three-dimensional maps are reconstructed from images captured microscope an x–y resolution 3 × μm2 focus-variation based on motor step-size 20 μm. time-resolved show total recession 730 μm significant ligament thinning over course 330 min exposure. This can be used developing components wide range devices applications propulsion, manufacturing, hypersonics, fusion.

The detailed understanding of complex materials used in information technology requires the use of state-of-the-art experimental techniques that provide information on the electronic and magnetic properties of the materials. The increasing miniaturization of components furthermore demands the use of techniques with spatial resolution down to the nanometer range. A means to satisfy both requirem...
متن کاملAcoustic Microscopy of Curved Surfaces
The Metrology and Imaging modes of the acoustic reflection microscope are applied to spherically shaped specimens. Metrology is usually practiced by translating the specimen along the acoustic beam axis. This operation yields a measurement of the local Rayleigh velocity at a single location in the specimen plane. Imaging is accomplished through raster-scanning in the plane transverse to the bea...

Plasma cleaning of solid surfaces is one of the hot topics of the very fast developing field of plasma treatment of materials. Plasma cleaning has been implemented already in several industries such as semiconductor processing and microchip fabrication, metallurgy, the optical industry, dentistry, medical technologies, food packaging – to name just the most important areas. Understanding the ba...
متن کاملSimple silhouettes for complex surfaces
Complex meshes tend to have intricate, detailed silhouettes. This paper proposes two algorithms for extracting a simpler, approximate silhouette from a high-resolution model. Our methods preserve the important features of the silhouette by using the silhouette of a coarser, simplified mesh as a guide. Our simple silhouettes have significantly fewer edges than the original silhouette, while stil...
متن کاملPepsinogen secretion: coupling of exocytosis visualized by video microscopy and [Ca2+]iin single cells.
Conventional in vitro studies of pepsinogen secretion have measured secretion into the bulk medium and have demonstrated the critical role of Ca2+ in the process. The present study was undertaken to obtain further details of the process of secretion and its relation to Ca2+changes over very short time periods. The relation between Ca2+ mobilization and exocytosis in an isolated individual pepti...
